Ultramarine or lapis lazuli in the finest quality, used in the 15th and 16th centuries only as a pigment color for the blue of the robe of the depiction of St. Mary, no color was more expensive back then, not even purple, the lapis lazuli came across the sea from Afghanistan , hence the name ultramarine (from beyond the sea).
